A new report from In the Public Interest (ITPI) revealed that the “confirmed fraud and waste” existing in California charter schools totals more than $149 million.
The state currently invests over $6 billion of public funds to pay for charter schools each year. However, despite relying on a substantial amount of taxpayer money, school districts and government officials continue to “lack the statutory authority to effectively monitor and hold charter schools accountable,” resulting in an exorbitant amount of fraud and waste at the taxpayer’s dime.
